Commonly Asked Questions:
An immigration psychological evaluation is a report done by a mental health professional to help with immigration cases. It looks at a person’s mental and emotional health and explains how situations like deportation could impact them and their family. These evaluations are often used in cases like asylum, extreme hardship waivers, U visas, T visas and VAWA petitions. The report gives the court a better understanding of the challenges the person faces and can help support their case.

What is the process?

⦁ Send us a message or call/text 908-244-1311 so that we can answer any questions you may have and to set up an appointment. You can also email us at DPtherapeuticsolutions@gmail.com.

⦁ We will send you an intake packet via e-mail or mail with consent forms and a questionnaire to fill out.

⦁ You will send your consent and questionnaire back to the clinician before your first appointment as we like to review all information prior to the initial session.

⦁ We usually plan for two sessions to complete the evaluation, but if you need an expedited appointment, we can arrange to cover everything in a single session.

⦁ Once all information is gathered, the clinician will begin working on the report. This can take about 2-4 weeks.

⦁ A report will then be emailed to you and your attorney.

Where does the evaluation take place?

⦁ Online using Telehealth, a HIPPAA compliant platform.

What should I expect during the evaluation?

⦁ You’ll meet with a clinician to discuss your background—covering where you’re from, your reasons for coming to this country, and what your life is currently like. You’ll also talk about your mental and emotional well-being as it relates to your immigration case.

⦁ The evaluation can last about 2-4 hours which can be broken into 2 appointments.

What should I bring?

⦁ A valid photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.)
⦁ If possible, bring a copy of your legal declaration
⦁ Please have some key dates and details ready, like the year you came to the U.S. and any other important dates related to your immigration case. If you have a police report or similar documents, those can also be helpful.
⦁ An interpreter (if needed)

What is the cost?

⦁ The cost of the evaluation is $1,000, which covers both the assessment (typically 2-4 hours) and a written report (about 10-20 pages, requiring 5-10 hours to complete). A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due when scheduling, with the remaining balance payable at the second session.
⦁ For reports needed within two weeks, a rush fee of $250 will apply.
⦁ If updates are required after the final report is sent to your attorney, any additional fees will depend on the extent of the updates needed.
